Green For All is mourning the loss of one of our movement’s most promising young leaders. On December 27th, Green For All College Ambassador Brianna Ford was killed in a car accident in Oakland.
Brianna was a true pioneer in the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Green Movement. She influenced countless lives through her work, organizing workshops and recycling competitions, and speaking to groups of people around the country about sustainability. While on earth, Brianna lived by the motto “Green Is the New Black.” She held a strong belief that we should all make healthier choices to sustain ourselves, our communities, and the planet that sustains all of us.
Brianna was a San Francisco native finishing her senior year at Clark Atlanta University where she studied Fine Arts with a concentration in General Studio.
This spring semester, Brianna was scheduled to study abroad in Florence, Italy at Lorenzo De' Medici. After graduation, Brianna had plans to pursue a degree in public administration with a concentration in urban planning. Ultimately, she wanted to open a community empowerment center creating a space for minority youth and college students to learn about nutrition and sustainability in a new and innovative way.
In honor of Brianna's commitment to creating a sustainable planet and equitable society, her beautiful family titled her memorial service “Green Is the New Black” and requested that mourners wear the color green instead of black. President of Rebuild the Dream and CNN Contributor Van Jones spoke at Brianna's memorial service to honor her contribution to the movement.
Brianna’s spirit will continue to live through the lives she touched. The movement has lost a true star and gained an angel. I am dedicating Musiq Soulchild’s song “Soulstar” to our beautiful angel Brianna Ford: http://bit.ly/VEIQmL. We will always love you Bri.
